Yamei Anti-malarial Nets Support Malaria Control Campaign in Guyana’s Region Nine

In May 2021, Guyana’s Ministry of Health launched an antimalarial campaign in Region Nine, officially distributing long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) to the area. As the supplier of these mosquito nets, Fujian Yamei is deeply honored—our LLINs will be delivered to all 57 villages across Region Nine, supporting efforts to curb malaria transmission in the region.

Malaria has long been a major public health challenge in Region Nine. In 2020, the region recorded 954 positive cases, compared with 739 cases in the previous year. Between January and April 2021, 349 cases had already been reported. Nationwide, Guyana registered 18,430 malaria cases in 2020, with the majority concentrated in Regions One, Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten. In the face of this serious situation, Yahe LLINs were urgently deployed to provide critical protection.

Yahe LN nets is a WHO-recommended long-lasting insecticide mosquito net, in which the active ingredient is coated into the netting fibres. When mosquitoes land on the net, they absorb a lethal dose and are killed. Even after repeated washing, the nets remain effective for up to three years, offering durable and reliable protection for local residents.

Guyana’s Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony, noted that the government has invested significant resources in procuring these long-lasting insecticide-treated nets and chose to begin distribution at the start of the rainy season, precisely to prevent the mosquito breeding that stagnant water can cause. Dr. Niall Usman, the Regional Health Officer for Region Nine, called on all residents to actively use the nets and to work toward the World Health Organization’s goal of eliminating malaria by 2025.

As a company deeply committed to the insect-proof net sector, Yamei will continue to deliver superior products in the global fight against malaria, bringing health and hope to more communities in need.
